Several Indian American Artists Receive Nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards

Pakistani American artist Arooj Aftab also received her second Grammy nomination.

Several Indian American Artists Receive Nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards

Several Indian-American artists have received nomination for the 67th  2025 Grammy Awards. It is scheduled for February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. 

The nominees for 2025 Grammy Awards Nomination include:

Chandrika Tandon, Anoushka Shankar, Varijashree Venugopal, Ricky Kej, Noshir Mody, and Radhika Vekaria. Pakistani American artist Arooj Aftab also received her second Grammy nomination.

Entrepreneur and artist Tandon’s album “Triveni,” has earned a nomination in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category. Previously, Tandon was nominated for her album Soul Call in the Best Contemporary World Music category. She is the sister of former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi and chairs Tandon Capital Associates, a financial advisory firm she founded in 1992.

Shankar, daughter of legendary sitarist Ravi Shankar, received a Grammy nomination for her album “Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn,” in the same category as Tandon. Shankar also received a second nomination in the Best Global Music Performance category, alongside Bengaluru-based vocalist, violinist, and composer Venugopal, for their collaboration on the song “A Rock Somewhere.”

Venugopal, a first-time Grammy nominee, contributed to Kej’s album as well. Kej, a three-time Grammy winner based in Bangalore, received his fourth nomination for “Break of Dawn.” Though Kej is now based in India, he was born in North Carolina.

Another, Indian-American artist Vekaria has also been nominated in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category for her album “Warriors of Light.” Vekaria, who resides in Los Angeles, was born in the UK to parents from East Africa with roots in India.

Mumbai-born musician Mody has received his first 2025 Grammy awards nomination for a song “Kashira,” in the Best Global Music Performance category. Pakistani American musician Aftab has also been nominated in this category for her song “Raat Ki Rani,” part of her album “Night Reign,” which is up for Best Alternative Jazz Album.

Aftab made history in 2022 as the first Pakistani woman to win a Grammy, awarded for her song Mohabbat in the Best Global Music Performance category.
