On September 8, 2025, Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) released a video message conveying his condolences to the people of Punjab, India, as the state reels from catastrophic flooding described as a “once-in-a-generation” disaster.

The floods have destroyed homes, farmland, and livelihoods across the region, leaving thousands displaced and entire communities struggling to recover.

In his message, Krishnamoorthi expressed his solidarity with those affected. “Hi everybody, I’m Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. I just wanted to express my deepest sympathies and condolences for the people of Punjab in India who are facing once-in-a-generation flooding right now. It’s devastating their lives. It’s devastating their livelihoods. Entire people’s properties and fortunes have been wiped out in the blink of an eye,” he said.

Highlighting the plight of farmers, the Congressman noted that many had lost crops just as they were preparing to harvest them. “And so let us all pray for them. At the same time, let’s do our part to send aid and assistance of any kind whatsoever to the people who’ve been afflicted by these floods. Let’s remember our common humanity,” Krishnamoorthi added.
