Padma Shri recipient Kailash Kher was honored with a special citation from New York State Assembly Member David Ira Weprin, recognizing his contributions as “a global ambassador of Indian culture, celebrated for his powerful voice and mastery of Indian folk music.”
The citation emphasizes Kher’s remarkable talent, dedication, and passion for the arts, highlighting his significant role in popularizing Indian folk music on the world stage.
Speaking on this incredible honor, Kher expressed his heartfelt gratitude: “I am deeply humbled and grateful to the New York State Assembly and Mr. David Weprin for this recognition. It’s a proud moment for me and for the entire Kailasa family. Indian folk music is the heartbeat of our culture, and to see it celebrated in such a grand way in the United States is truly inspiring.”
On October 16th, Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Pradhan hosted Kher at the Consulate and thanked him for being “a true Ambassador of Indian culture by promoting Indian spiritual music and songs in different parts of the US.”
During the Bharat Utsav 2024 USA Tour, Kher and his troupe, Kailasa, performed a series of performances around the United States. Kher’s performance was hosted in New York by the Indo-American Arts Council at the International House in Manhattan.
