The New York State Assembly has formally recognized the centennial birth anniversary of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, commemorated worldwide on November 23, 2025. The citation, issued on November 20 by New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh, acknowledges Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s lifelong legacy of service and global humanitarian impact.

Presenting the citation, Assemblyman Sayegh noted that Sri Sathya Sai Baba dedicated his life and work to uplifting communities across India, the United States, and around the world. He highlighted Baba’s contributions to charitable initiatives, education, health services, and community outreach, all of which continue to inspire service-minded efforts globally.

“This service is so valuable that here in communities like New York City and Queens and Yonkers and all over that we’re very proud of the efforts Sundar and many of the volunteers have committed to continuing the legacy of Sai Baba,” the Assemblyman stated.

Sundar Venugopalan of the Sri Sathya Sai Global Council in New York expressed gratitude to Assemblyman Sayegh and Rev. Chandra Sookdeo for the recognition. He emphasized that Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s universal messages of “Love All, Serve All” and “Help Ever, Hurt Never” continue to guide millions. Venugopalan said these teachings reflect the transformative power of selfless love, compassion, and unity.

Recalling Baba’s 85-year earthly sojourn, Venugopalan noted that he transformed Puttaparthi into a global spiritual hub and sparked a worldwide movement of community service. He added that Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings promote the unity of all religions and encourage individuals to recognize the divine in every being. “His life was his message,” Venugopalan said, pointing to Baba’s emphasis on love, peace, non-violence, truth, and right conduct.

Venugopalan also highlighted Baba’s enduring legacy, including world-class free educational institutions from kindergarten to postgraduate levels and free super-specialty hospitals in India that provide critical care to underserved populations. These initiatives, he said, embody Baba’s belief that “the end of education is character.” According to him, Baba’s influence continues across social welfare, disaster relief, and sustainable development programs.

Sri Sathya Sai Centers worldwide, including those under the Sri Sathya Sai Global Council in New York, remain active in spiritual development and community outreach. Venugopalan said that in this centennial year, the organization is committed to expanding service efforts locally and internationally.

“This centennial year, we are committed to expanding our service to those in need right here in New York and around the world. At the heart of all this humanitarian work is the firm conviction that community service is for our own self-transformation, enabling us to create positive change in society,” he said.
