The Jain Society of Metropolitan Washington (JSMW) successfully raised “substantial funds,” during its Patrika Lekhan event on the weekend of March 15th, marking a major milestone toward the Pratishtha Mahotsav (inauguration) of its new Jain Temple in Beltsville, Maryland.

In a statement, JSMW highlighted the remarkable achievement of its close-knit community of approximately 700 families, emphasizing their dedication to seva (selfless service) and their “commitment to preserving and promoting Jainism for future generations.”

Every element of the temple, from intricately carved murtis (idols) of revered Tirthankars to serene meditation spaces, has been designed to foster spiritual growth, inner peace, and reflection. The Pratishtha Mahotsav is scheduled for May 31 – June 1, 2025.

“Beyond being a spiritual place, this new temple will serve as a center for education,” said Chairperson of JSMW’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Gita Shah. “With a dedicated Pathshala, we are ensuring that young Jains have a space to learn and carry forward the timeless teachings of Jain philosophy for generations to come.”

The fundraising achievement reflects the deep devotion and generosity of JSMW’s members. With this latest milestone, the organization is now in its final phase of preparations for the grand Pratishtha celebrations, added the statement.

“The energy in the room was electrifying,” said President of JSMW, Vishal Mehta. “We are a small community, but our unity and commitment to Jain principles drive us to achieve the impossible. This temple is not just a structure, it is a legacy of faith, culture, and compassion that will serve generations to come.”

Founded in 1980, JSMW is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Jain teachings in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Through its temple, community programs, and interfaith initiatives, the organization fosters spiritual, cultural, and educational growth.
