Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand met with India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Vaux-de-Cernay, France, continuing a series of bilateral engagements that began in September last year.

Anand expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to Prime Minister Mark Carney during his recent visit to India. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the New Roadmap for Canada-India Relations. Anand reiterated Canada’s objective of concluding a comprehensive and commercially meaningful agreement this year that would benefit businesses in both countries.

The ministers also welcomed upcoming high-level engagements aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties, including the ongoing public safety dialogue.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on key global and regional developments, including the Middle East conflict and its implications for global energy markets, energy security, and supply chains.

Both sides underscored the importance of diplomacy in advancing peace.

The ministers agreed to remain in close contact as Canada and India pursue an ambitious agenda to support bilateral, regional, and global stability.
