The American Hindu Coalition (AHC) has officially endorsed Virginia Attorney General, Jason Miyares, for a second term in office during a meeting held on October 8, 2025, at the Staybridge Suites in Chantilly, Virginia.

Addressing the gathering, Attorney General Miyares highlighted the achievements of the Youngkin administration over the past four years, describing them as “the most remarkable four-year turnaround any state has seen in modern American history.” He cited Virginia’s rise from 46th in the nation for job creation to the top five, $140 billion in new investments, and a record number of job openings for Virginians.

“And yes, we changed the trend. Now we have more people moving to Virginia, instead of moving away,” he emphasized.

As a father of three daughters, Miyares said, “I want Virginia to be vibrant. Because I don’t want my daughters to have to move away to chase their dreams. I’m very selfish in this regard. I want them to stay in Virginia…” He added, “I tell my kids all the time, success in life will be determined in many ways by your attitude. You can either have a gratitude mindset or a grievance mindset. Which do you think is going to lead to long term success?”

Calling Virginia “an amazing microcosm of the greater America,” AG Miyares told South Asian Herald that “it doesn’t matter where you came from, it matters where you’re going. That’s the best of America.” He underscored the contributions of South Asians in medicine, science, and entrepreneurship, noting that two-thirds of all new PhDs in the U.S. are earned by first-generation Americans, many from the South Asian community.

He commended the community’s determination to “chase their dreams,” emphasizing his commitment to “removing barriers” and “protecting civil rights.”

Recalling a formative childhood moment, Miyares shared that one of his earliest memories was helping his mother learn the Pledge of Allegiance for her naturalization ceremony. Underscoring the importance of the ceremony he said “That’s how I spent my July 4. I was at Fort Monroe, and I got to welcome 97 new Americans from 48 countries,” adding And it’s always this magical moment for me to be able to stand in front of them and to welcome them home…”

“America works when this idea is no matter who you are, how you worship, that you can go chase your dreams,” he added, explaining this was one of the reasons he became involved with Thomas Jefferson High School issue with admission policy.

He noted that Thomas Jefferson High School had long been a diverse, “majority-minority” institution, but that Fairfax County officials replaced its “merit-based” admissions system with an “equity-based” policy.

“They said, you had to be, in their words, purposefully unequal,” Miyares remarked. “I don’t ever want to live in America where you have people in power that say you’re a certain background; I’m going to purposefully treat you unequally.”

He pointed to a drop of more than 20 percentage points in Asian student enrollment following the change, and text messages suggesting officials believed “we have too many Asian students in our school.”

“Many came from countries that denied them their dreams. But here, if I can’t, my children will chase those dreams. That’s the Virginia I want, the America I want,” while referring to dreams and aspirations of immigrant parents.

Chair of the Virginia Asian American Advisory Board and AHC Board Member, Srilekhe Palle, who introduced AG Miyares praised him for “courageously running” again and serving the community “with commitment, integrity, and compassion.”

She highlighted his actions after Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) withheld National Merit awards from high-achieving, largely Asian American students, recalling that “he stood shoulder to shoulder with parents, students, and advocates.”

Palle noted that on January 4, 2023, Miyares launched two civil rights investigations into FCPS and Thomas Jefferson High School. The Virginia Office of Civil Rights later found, on May 21, 2025, “reasonable cause” that FCPS violated the Virginia Human Rights Act and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for “discriminating against Asian American students in its admissions process” she said.

“The Fairfax County School Board made clear its intended outcome was to reduce opportunities for Asian American students – and that’s exactly what occurred,” Miyares said in an official statement on May 21. “These students are not statistics. They are sons and daughters, neighbors, classmates, and Virginians who deserve equal protection and opportunity under the law.”

Not only in education, Palle also commended Miyares for working closely with Asian American cultural and faith organizations. She recalled his response to a wave of jewelry thefts targeting Asian businesses, during which he directed his chief of staff, DJ Jordan, to assist affected communities.

AHC Chairman Shekhar Tiwari reiterated that “merit is the most important thing,” noting that the Hindu and Asian American communities continue to advance because of it. At the event, Akhil Govil from the Americans for Hindus also announced his organization’s endorsement of Attorney General Miyares.
