The Association of Indians in America (AIA), New York chapter, will host its 38th annual Deepavali Festival on October 11, 2025, at Overlook Beach in Babylon, Long Island. The festival, one of the largest community celebrations of Diwali in the United States, marks the first time the event is being held outside Manhattan.
AIA-NY President Beena Kothari, who has previously organized major cultural events including the India Day Parade in Hicksville, is leading the move to Long Island. “We have planned an exciting lineup of programs that highlight our rich culture and heritage to entertain and engage the entire family, from kids to seniors,” Kothari said, extending an open invitation to the public. Admission to the event is free, according to a statement from Parveen Chopra.

The all-day festivities will feature Indian classical and folk dances, a fashion show by celebrity designer Prashant Goyal, and a surprise Bollywood star appearance. A highlight of the program will be the 30-minute Ramayana Musical Live Dance Drama, along with a presentation on Ram Setu. The festival will also honor Jain traditions, commemorating the liberation of Bhagwan Mahaveer in 527 BCE.
The statement noted that a spectacular fireworks display on the shore is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will last 20–30 minutes. Families can enjoy a variety of activities, including a Kids Corner from noon to 4 p.m. with games, henna painting, and fun workshops. Adults can take part in free Yoga and Zumba sessions at the Health and Wellness Zone. Visitors will also find retail and corporate booths, a bustling Meena Bazaar, food stalls serving Indian delicacies, and a photo booth featuring Maharaja and Maharani mannequins. Rangoli and art competitions are also planned.
Lawmakers, dignitaries, and community leaders, including Consul General of India in New York Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, are expected to attend. Guests will also have the option of purchasing VIP dinner tickets for a private gathering before the fireworks, along with raffle tickets offering grand prizes.
Sponsors of the festival include Bolla Oil, Mount Sinai, New York Cancer and Blood Specialists, Cheap-o-Air, Navika Group, ICICI Bank, and Ranju & Ravi Batra. Global television networks Zee and Sony will broadcast highlights, while local South Asian media outlets will provide extensive coverage.
Founded in 1967, AIA is the oldest Indian community organization in the United States, with the motto “Indian Heritage American Commitment.” The New York chapter has been at the forefront of advocacy and cultural initiatives, including the 2013 release of the USPS Diwali stamp, the 2006 Diwali celebration at the White House, and New York City’s official recognition of Diwali as a holiday beginning in 2024.
