Subedaar Trailer Launch Showcases Anil Kapoor’s Agelessness

The trailer hints at a fierce ongoing tussle between Arjun (Anil Kapoor) and his antagonists, but Subedaar is not above the gritty, raw action we see. There is a father (Arjun) and a daughter (Radhikka Madan) at loggerheads with him.

And who is the Subedaar? An ex-army man adjusting to civilian life after serving the country. The film positions itself as a blend of an action and personal drama, set against a backdrop of socio-political conflict.

Speaking about the film, Anil Kapoor said, “Playing this character has been one of the most powerful and emotionally demanding experiences of my career. Subedaar Arjun is a man defined by discipline, sacrifice, and deep personal loss, and bringing that to life on screen was both challenging and incredibly fulfilling for me as an actor. It also marks my first collaboration with director Suresh Triveni, Vikram Malhotra and Prime Video.”

“Their commitment to scale, authenticity, and bold storytelling gave us the freedom to tell this story with the intensity it truly deserves,” he added. “Producing this project was equally important to me because I wanted to give my best, not only as an actor but also as a producer. Being involved creatively behind the scenes allowed me to contribute to the vision of the film in a more holistic way.”

He credited his long innings (the event also marked his 40 years as actor) to wonderful costars, right filmmakers and a connect with them all. He added that Subedaar would not have been possible without the brilliant performances of my co-actors Radhikka, Mona Singh, who takes on the negative role of Didi, Saurabh Shukla as his comrade-in-arms, Aditya Rawal as the chilling villain, Faisal Panchayat Khan in his big-screen debut, and Khushboo Sunder (ex-child actor Khushboo who made her debut as an adult with the Anil Kapoor film, Meri Jung and is a big star down South), along with the fantastic team behind the lens.

Radhikka Madan said, “My character, Shyama, is a young woman dealing with loss, unspoken fear, and quiet strength, while trying to protect herself and navigate a fractured relationship with her father. What I admire about her is that her courage is not loud — it comes from resilience, self-belief, and emotional honesty. Sharing the screen with a veteran like Anil Kapoor sir made this movie truly memorable.”

“His intensity, discipline, and emotional depth as an actor elevated our scenes, and I learned so much just by observing him,” she said adding “Working with director Suresh Triveni-sir was a dream come true. I have been trying to work with him for the past four years. He is one of the best directors I have worked with. Under his vision and amazing style of direction, the father-daughter equation has become the strong and emotional backbone of the film. Subedaar is an action drama with real heart.”

Director Suresh Triveni described the film as a tribute to the mainstream cinema he grew up watching and highlighted the father-daughter relationship at its core.

Subedaar is produced by Vikram Malhotra, Anil Kapoor and Suresh Triveni under Opening Image Films and Anil Kapoor Film & Communication Network (AKFCN). The film is set to premiere on March 5 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu across India and in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.

But here’s a vital lesson that Amazon Prime Video and its decision-making bigwigs have not learnt from the fact that they are trailing—far—behind their main competitor in India. Their events are marked by rigged questions being decided backstage and on the sly between chosen media-persons addressed with mollycoddling by the ‘anchor’. This gives the rest of the journalists no scope to ask valid questions. This has been pointed out often by other journalists and me but to no avail.

In the film, Subedaar’s crucial one-liner goes “Fauji hain, seene mein goli jhel sakte hai, be-izzati nahin (I am a soldier, I can take a bullet in my chest, but not an insult)!”

It is high time a united front was put up with the similar statement, “Journalist hain! News se parey rehna seh sakte hain, aisi be-izzati nahin (We can be kept away from news and will bear that, but not such an insult!”)
