The start of a new cricket season in North America is set to receive a high-profile boost, with Bollywood actor Sonu Sood and singer Mika Singh joining the National Cricket League GT20 (NCL GT20).
Announcing the development, the GT20 team ownership, which has been driving the NCL GT20’s expansion across North America, said the addition of Sonu Sood and Mika Singh marks an important milestone in the league’s continued growth in the region.
Their involvement is expected to bring increased global visibility and cultural influence to a league that is steadily connecting established cricket markets with emerging audiences in the United States and Canada.
The move aligns with the National Cricket League’s broader vision of building a global cricket platform that connects players, fans, and stakeholders across regions. By linking the strong cricketing traditions of South Asia and the Caribbean with the growing momentum in North America, the NCL aims to contribute to the sport’s next phase of expansion.
Cricket continues to gain traction across North America, supported by a diverse and expanding fan base, greater international participation, and increasing commercial interest. With the sport set to return to the Olympic Games, the timing presents a significant opportunity to broaden its reach and relevance in new markets.
Sood said, “Cricket has always had the power to unite people across cultures. What the National Cricket League is building in North America is an important step toward reaching new audiences. With the Olympics ahead and growing interest in the region, this is the right time to be part of that journey.”
Singh added: “Cricket and entertainment naturally come together, and North America offers a unique platform for both. The diversity and energy here make it an exciting market, and I’m proud to be part of the National Cricket League and NCL GT20.”
Peter Jagpal, co-owner of Vancouver Guardians, said, “Cricket in Canada is entering a significant phase of growth, and NCL GT20 is helping create a strong platform for the sport across North America. We are proud to be part of a league that is building the future of cricket in Canada and expanding its reach to new audiences.”
The National Cricket League has already hosted successful tournaments and continues to attract global talent, prominent ownership groups, and growing support from fans and partners. Through NCL GT20, the league is establishing a pathway from grassroots development to professional competition, while also introducing an entertainment-driven experience for audiences.
With momentum building ahead of the next Olympic cycle, NCL GT20 is positioned to play an important role in expanding cricket’s footprint in North America and strengthening its connection to the global game.
