SAHHI and SAC’s New Series Brings Culture, Community, and Cardio Care Together

For many South Asian families, heart disease feels like an inevitable part of our story: something whispered about after an uncle’s stent or an auntie’s “mild” heart attack. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

This summer, the South Asian Heart Health Initiative (SAHHI) is teaming up with South Asian Care (SAC) to start a different conversation: one filled with music, food, movement, and science that speaks to our roots and our future.

What’s the SAHHI X SAC Summer Series?

Think of it as a virtual neighborhood festival that happens once a week, where each session tackles an aspect of heart health through a distinctly South Asian lens:

  • Bollywood-Fusion Dance Workout – Trade your treadmill for high-energy choreography set to your favorite filmi hits.
  • Live Cooking Demo – Learn how to give beloved dishes (think biryani, chaat, or even gajar halwa) a heart-healthy makeover without losing the flavor that tastes like home.
  • Ayurvedic Meditation & Yoga – Slow things down with guided breathwork and stretches that weave ancient wisdom into modern stress relief.
  • South Asian Cardiology & Genetics 101 – Curious why our community faces higher risks even at younger ages? Cardiologists break down the latest research on genes, lifestyle, and what we can do about it.

Each interactive hour is free, open to all ages, and welcoming to everyone: whether you’re South Asian, married to one, or just love our food and music. Kids can dance alongside grandparents; college students can quiz cardiologists; busy parents can pick up five-minute meditation tricks. Come for one session or stay for the whole series.

Ready to join the conversation (and the dance party)?

Save your spot at www.southasiancare.com/events and share the link with friends, family, and anyone who has ever hummed a Bollywood tune in the kitchen.

This summer, let’s turn heart health into a celebration. Every heartbeat deserves its own soundtrack.
