New York Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar has described the April 30 fire in South Ozone Park, New York, as a “senseless act of violence,” while offering support to residents who lost their homes in the incident.

“In the early hours of this morning, our community was shaken to its core by a senseless act of violence and destruction in South Ozone Park: a domestic dispute that escalated into a 5-alarm fire, leaving a family’s home reduced to rubble and at least 16 of our neighbors displaced,” Rajkumar said in a statement.

She added that, amid the tragedy, “we witnessed both horror and heroism,” as members of the FDNY and NYPD responded to the emergency, entering the flames and debris to save lives despite sustaining injuries.

“As we move forward on the long road to recovery, I want to assure every person affected that they are not alone,” she added. “My office is here to support you, and we will ensure that those who have lost their homes will receive the help they need. Together, we will rebuild and emerge stronger than ever.”

Rajkumar’s office has urged those affected by the fire to seek assistance by calling 718-805-0950, emailing rajkumarj@nyassembly.gov, or reaching out via call or text at 347-585-0327.
