The Permanent Mission of India organized a Republic Day reception on January 26, 2026, in New York to mark the 77th Republic Day of India, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of India and reaffirming the country’s enduring commitment to “democracy, constitutional values, and inclusive progress.”

The reception was attended by around 150 distinguished guests, including Permanent Representatives, Chargés d’Affaires, senior diplomats, United Nations officials, and members of the Indian diaspora. The gathering reflected the “strong goodwill and close engagement” between India and the international community, according to a statement from the Mission.

Addressing the audience, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Harish Parvathaneni, reflected on the Constitution as the “bedrock” of India’s “democratic journey,” the statement noted.

The Mission added that the Ambassador underscored how the values enshrined in the Constitution, including “equality, secularism, and the rule of law continue” to guide India’s domestic governance as well as its engagement with the international community.

Marking the 150th anniversary of the national song “Vande Mataram,” the reception featured a special rendition by Chandrika Tandon, a Grammy Award-winning singer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. The cultural program also included performances by Kazakh Bharatanatyam dancers Tatyana Popova and Damir Tasmagambetov.
