India is gearing up to host one of the world’s premier data science gatherings, with the ACM SIGMOD/PODS International Conference on Management of Data 2026 scheduled to take place in Bengaluru from May 31 to June 5, positioning the country at the center of global conversations on data, artificial intelligence and digital innovation.

The upcoming conference is expected to draw leading researchers, practitioners, developers and industry leaders from across the world, offering a platform to exchange cutting-edge ideas, tools and real-world applications in database systems and data management.

Organizers say the event will feature an expansive technical programme, including research and industry talks, tutorials, demonstrations and specialized workshops, alongside poster sessions, an industrial exhibition and a careers-in-industry panel.

The forward momentum comes amid growing academic engagement between India and China. Recently, India’s Consul General in Shanghai, Pratik Mathur, met senior computer scientist Hu Wei of Nanjing University ahead of his planned participation in the conference.

The interaction, held during the Qingming Festival, underscored expectations that such high-level academic exchanges will translate into deeper collaboration in emerging technology domains. Hu, known for his work in data management and the semantic web, is among several global experts expected to contribute to discussions on the future of data-driven systems.

Officials indicated that the conference could act as a catalyst for expanding institutional partnerships, with potential outcomes including joint research initiatives, faculty exchanges and increased student mobility. These collaborations are increasingly seen as critical to advancing innovation in areas such as big data and artificial intelligence.

The event also aligns with broader ambitions to position India as a global hub for advanced research and technology dialogue. With participation from academia and industry, the conference is expected to bridge the gap between theoretical research and practical deployment, particularly in fast-evolving digital ecosystems.

As countries across the Global South look to harness data for governance, sustainability and economic growth, forums such as SIGMOD/PODS 2026 are likely to play a pivotal role in shaping collaborative solutions and nurturing the next generation of researchers.
