Chicago, IL, January 2, 2025 – The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago has once again stepped up to support vulnerable communities with its third annual Coat Drive. On a cold winter day, the organization distributed over 400 coats and blankets to shelters in Illinois, ensuring individuals and families could face the harsh season with added warmth and comfort.

Led by Founder Chairman Sunil Shah, President Pratibha Jairath, and President-Elect Anu Malhotra, the initiative reflects FIA’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility. Donations were delivered to two key organizations: Hesed House Shelter in Aurora and the Humanitarian Service Project Shelter in Carol Stream. Both shelters provide critical support to individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness.

The day began at Hesed House in Aurora, where volunteers unloaded boxes of winter essentials. The shelter, known for its comprehensive approach to combating homelessness, received the items with gratitude. Karen Swandby, Director of the Family Shelter, played a key role in facilitating the donation process.

Later, the FIA team arrived at the Humanitarian Service Project in Carol Stream. This organization serves senior citizens and families in need across DuPage and Kane counties. Executive Director Kristine Senne, along with other staff members, ensured the seamless distribution of donations.

The effort was made possible through the hard work of Executive Vice President Chandini Duvvuri, whose dedication ensured the drive’s success. Volunteers braved challenging weather and traffic conditions to deliver the items, embodying FIA’s mission to serve with purpose and unity.

“This drive is about more than coats—it’s about showing people that they are valued and supported,” said Anu Malhotra, President-Elect of FIA. Sunil Shah emphasized the importance of community solidarity, adding, “Our message is clear: no one is forgotten.”

President Pratibha Jairath commended the team’s efforts, noting their determination to make a meaningful impact during Chicago’s frigid winter.

The initiative was supported by numerous volunteers and donors, whose generosity ensured its success. The dedication of Team FIA members, including names like Chandini Duvvuri, Bharat Malhotra, and Hitesh Gandhi, was instrumental. Donors like Anu & Bharat Malhotra, Jitendra Bulsara, and Nidhi Mishra provided vital resources for the drive.

The Federation of Indian Associations is a nonprofit organization that fosters cultural integration, social responsibility, and humanitarian initiatives across the U.S. Through efforts like the Coat Drive, FIA continues to make a positive impact on diverse communities.
