Air India has resumed its non-stop service between Delhi and Shanghai after a gap of nearly six years.

The inaugural ceremony for the restored Delhi–Shanghai flight was held at Pudong International Airport, with Consul General of India in Shanghai, Pratik Mathur, attending as the chief guest. He described the resumption of direct air connectivity as marking a “renewed chapter” following the prolonged suspension of services.

To commemorate the restart, the Consul General handed over the first boarding passes to passengers Jaiswal and Lai. In his remarks, CG Mathur highlighted the role of enhanced air links in strengthening “people-to-people contacts, business, tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges” between India and China.

Referring to the “3 Kartavyas” philosophy outlined in the Union Budget 2026, the Consul General also underscored growth opportunities arising from India’s expanding economy and rapidly growing civil aviation sector, citing airport expansion, UDAN regional connectivity, and global partnerships as key drivers.

According to a statement issued by Air India on February 1, the Delhi–Shanghai flight, AI352, departed from Indira Gandhi International Airport, reconnecting the Indian capital with one of Asia’s leading business and cultural hubs.

“This 4x weekly service, operated with a Boeing 787-8 aircraft, restores Air India’s direct access to mainland China and supports growing demand from business travelers, families, and tourists,” the airline stated.
