Real Estate Professionals Hold Gala Highlighting Leadership, Unity, Future Vision

Elmhurst, IL – The Association of South Asian Real Estate Professionals (ASARP)of Greater Chicago celebrated its Annual Gala on October 25, 2024, at Waterford Banquets bringing together more than 200 real estate agents, community leaders, and distinguished guests for a night of inspiration, cultural appreciation, and celebration of its growth since its inception in 2015.

The evening began with a traditional lighting of the lamp, honored by notable guests, including Mario Treto Jr., Secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), and Laurie Murphy, Director of IDFPR’s Real Estate Division. Attendees enjoyed a stirring rendition of the US national anthem by Todd Felker, accompanied by a video performance of the Indian anthem and a serene Ganesh Vandana, invoking blessings for the year ahead.

After lamp lighting signifying the advent of traditional Hindu festival of Diwali, a two-minute silence was observed in memory of Hiten Gardi’s father, advisory Board member of ASARP.

In his keynote address, ASARP’s Chairman Pradeep B. Shukla inspired the audience with thoughts on leadership, vision, and resilience. He emphasized key messages:

Leadership: Drawing on a Ghanaian proverb, Shukla noted, “An army of sheep led by a lion can defeat an army of lions led by a sheep,” highlighting the importance of strong leadership in guiding ASARP’s success. 

Clarity of Vision: Quoting Lewis Carroll, he stated, “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there,” affirming ASARP’s clear path and goals for the future, leading to Stronger professional networks, greater representation of South Asian professionals in leadership roles and continued excellence in all facets of real estate. 

Overcoming Fear: Referencing Franklin D. Roosevelt, he reminded members, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself,” encouraging a confident approach to challenges.

Outgoing President Shirin Marvi reflected on ASARP’s accomplishments in 2024 and previewed future international tours to India, aimed at fostering relationships and knowledge exchange. Incoming President Sunita Kakarlapudi presented an exciting agenda for 2025, focusing on Vastu and Yoga for holistic growth.

The gala also marked the installation of ASARP’s new board, with Piero Orsi leading the oath-taking ceremony for new members, including Brandon Glasser, Nimish Jani, Raj Potluri, and Sairavi Suribhotla, alongside returning leaders. Secretary Treto and Director Murphy commended ASARP for its dedication to ethical practices and professional excellence, reinforcing its role in promoting diversity within the real estate sector.

The event gathered influential figures, including Dr. Bharat Barai (Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardee), Sunil Shah, and representatives from Main Street and MRED. Esteemed sponsors such as Illinois Realtors, Main Street Organization of Realtors, MRED LLC, and others played a vital role in making the evening a success.

Kakarlapudi announced the creation of a new Public Relations Committee to enhance ASARP’s outreach, appointing Marvi as head, along with Nimish Jani. New Joint Treasurers Raj Patel and Nick Verma joined the Trustee Board, further strengthening ASARP’s leadership team.

The gala featured professional networking, cultural performances—including a captivating Dandiya dance—and a delightful culinary experience, coordinated by the ANNA Group.
