From October 18–26, 2025, BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville, New Jersey, came alive with the radiant spirit of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, as thousands of devotees, well-wishers, and visitors from across the tri-state area gathered to celebrate the “victory of light over darkness, goodness over evil, and harmony over division.”

Held under the special theme of “Unity,” the celebrations highlighted the “values of harmony, compassion, and togetherness that Diwali inspires,” reminding participants that when individuals and families come together, they strengthen both personal bonds and the fabric of the wider community, according to BAPS.

Among the most memorable moments of the week-long festivities was a stunning fireworks display that lit up the night sky over the Akshardham courtyard. The celebration began with a maha aarti, a collective offering of light and devotion, setting the tone for an evening that beautifully combined spirituality with celebration. The fireworks that followed created a dazzling spectacle of color and sound, symbolizing the collective aspiration for peace and unity.

Local dignitaries and public officials from Mercer County and neighboring regions joined the gathering, experiencing firsthand the sense of community and harmony that Diwali evokes.

“In preparation for the celebrations, volunteers dedicated weeks of effort to create a vibrant atmosphere at the mandir. The grounds were adorned with colorful decorations, intricate rangoli designs, and displays of light, offering visitors an immersive cultural and spiritual experience that reflected both devotion and artistry,” said the statement.

A central feature of the festival was the Annakut, or “mountain of food,” in which hundreds of vegetarian dishes, prepared by devotees of all ages, were beautifully arranged and offered to the Divine. The Annakut represented gratitude, devotion, and the collective spirit of service that underpins the BAPS community.

“Working with so many dedicated volunteers to prepare for Diwali showed me how service can bring us closer together as a family and community,” said Ami Shah.

Beyond rituals and prayers, the celebration included family-friendly programs such as interactive exhibits, educational displays, and activities for children, all designed to share the deeper meaning of Diwali. These experiences encouraged learning and connection across generations.

“Experiencing Diwali at the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, Robbinsville, NJ filled me with joy,” said Rama Joshi. “I came from India and was looking forward to this celebration. The lights, the Annakut, and the sense of community remind me of the traditions I grew up with, while also creating new memories with my family here.”

Sharing his reflections, Hari Patel noted, “Diwali at Akshardham is more than a festival – it’s an experience of coming together. In a world where differences often divide, our goal this year was to remind everyone that unity is our greatest strength and the light that dispels all darkness.”

His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj shared his Diwali blessings, urging all to let the light of unity illuminate their lives. “Our prayerful blessings that Bhagwan Swaminarayan may keep you all happy in body, mind and means; that you all may keep peace in your hearts; that unity increases in your family; faith and devotion towards Bhagwan grow; and that the strength to follow the commandments of Satsang is obtained,” he added.

BAPS mandirs across North America also hosted Diwali celebrations, offering spaces for spiritual reflection, cultural appreciation, and community unity. As the lights of Diwali continue to inspire, the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville stands as a beacon where tradition, devotion, and togetherness converge, reaffirming that the true essence of Diwali lies in illuminating hearts as much as homes.
